Dr Jian Fu Zhang received B.Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from Xi’an Jiao Tong University in 1982 and Ph.D. degree from University of Liverpool in 1987. From 1986 to 1992, he was a Research Associate with the University of Liverpool. He joined Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) as a Senior Lecturer in 1992, became a Reader in 1996, and a Professor in 2001. He was the area leader for Microelectronics and the Head of Research Centre of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at LJMU until August 2025. In 2025,he joined The School of Integrated Circuits at Southeast University as a Professor.
Over three decades, Dr Zhang has focused in one research area: the qualification of CMOS devices, including ageing, noises, and statistical modelling of dynamic variability. His research has been in collaboration with IMEC, supported by industrial partners, including ARM, Synopsys, and Qualcomm. He has been awarded 11 research grants by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of UK and Innovate UK.
Dr Zhang has authored or co-authored 280 journal/conference papers, including 50 invited papers/book chapters/conference tutorials, over 80 papers in IEEE journals, and 22 papers at IEDM/Symposium of VLSI Technology. He is/was a member of the technical program committee of several international conferences, including IEDM.
